Terms of Service
Last updated: October 16, 2026
1. Who we are
Foothold (footholdinit.com) is operated by Chigozie Ezemba, based in Alberta, Canada ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Foothold.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age to use online services where you live. If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission to buy a subscription.
- Keep your password and recovery code safe. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person per account. Don't share accounts or sell access.
- Usernames appear publicly on the leaderboard. Don't pick one that's offensive or impersonates someone.
3. Ethical use: the most important rule
Foothold teaches offensive and defensive security skills. All labs on the site are simulations: they don't touch real networks or real systems. When you use these skills outside Foothold:
- Only test systems you own, or systems you have explicit written permission to test.
- Never use what you learn here to access, damage or disrupt systems, data or people without authorization. In Canada that can be a criminal offence, and the same is true in most other countries.
- Don't attack Foothold itself. That includes trying to bypass the paywall, scrape answers, overload the service, or access other users' accounts. If you find a security problem, please report it to guzee003@gmail.com. We appreciate responsible disclosure.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
4. Free and Pro plans
- Free: the Getting Started track and the Nmap and Wireshark previews.
- Foothold Pro: every room and lab on the site, billed monthly or yearly at the price shown at checkout (in Canadian dollars, plus any applicable taxes).
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card details.
- Automatic renewal: your subscription renews at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from progress → Manage billing. After cancelling, you keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will retry it for a short time. If it still can't be collected, your account returns to the free plan.
- We may change prices in the future. Any change will apply to your subscription only from your next billing period after we've told you about it, so you have time to cancel.
5. Refunds
See our Refund & Cancellation Policy. In short, a first-time subscriber can get a full refund within 7 days of their first payment.
6. Content
The lessons, labs, videos, questions and scenarios on Foothold, including the FieldKit incident story, belong to us. You may use them for your own learning. Don't copy, republish or sell them, and don't publish answer keys.
7. Availability and changes
We work to keep Foothold running and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove content and features. If we ever shut down Foothold Pro entirely, we'll give notice and refund any unused prepaid time.
8. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
Foothold is provided "as is" for educational purposes. To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for how you use the skills you learn. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived.
9. Ending your account
You can delete your account anytime from your progress page. Deleting it also cancels any active subscription. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. If we close your account without cause, we'll refund any unused prepaid time.
10. Changes to these terms
If we make important changes, we'll update the date at the top and, where it matters, let you know on the site. Continuing to use Foothold after a change means you accept the new terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
